Our Purpose & History

The Girls Choral Academy works to Give Girls a Voice. We offer unique programs of music for girls who love to sing and wish to grow both artistically as singers, and personally as leaders and members of a choir.  We provide a safe environment where girls build leadership skills and self-confidence through music education. Girls Choral Academy historically performs three major concerts each school year involving girls in tuition-based choirs and after-school program choirs. Founded in 1997, we are proud of the musical gift we offer to the community of West Michigan.

The singers that make up the Girls Choral Academy are from all over West Michigan and are students of public, private, charter, parochial schools, and some are home-schooled. They come from a wide variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and they are all united by their excitement about singing, about choir, and about being a girl! Firmly committed to diversity in membership and repertoire, the Girls Choral Academy offers scholarships for girls who wish to participate in any of the tuition-based choirs.

The after-school choirs are located in schools in southwest urban neighborhoods of Grand Rapids near Grandville Avenue. These choirs operate in cooperation with the Grand Rapids Public School System, including Southwest Community Campus School, Buchanan Elementary, and Chavez Elementary.

“We offer a unique program of music for girls who love to sing and wish to grow not only musically, but personally, in self-esteem, and in leadership skills as well.”

We are always looking for new singers, so if you know of a girl who LOVES to sing – give us a call at 616-361-6111 or contact us.
